About Melissa Holinsworth

I began my career as a hairstylist in 2012 and trained at Vidal Sassoon, where I developed a strong foundation in precision cutting and became a cutting specialist. That training shaped the way I approach hair—focusing on structure, balance, and technique. Over time, my work naturally evolved toward hair extensions, and today extensions are the primary focus of my work.

I specialize in creating seamless, natural-looking hair extensions while prioritizing the health of the natural hair. Many of my clients have fine or thinning hair, and I work extensively with lightweight installation techniques designed to be discreet, comfortable, and damage-free. Every installation is customized based on the client’s natural hair density, growth patterns, and lifestyle so the extensions blend naturally and grow out beautifully.

In addition to working with clients, I am also an extension educator. Many stylists know me as Extensions by Melissa, where I share my work and techniques with both clients and professionals. I am also the founder of The Mane Academy, an online education platform dedicated to teaching hairstylists advanced extension techniques, installation methods, and sourcing knowledge.

Through The Mane Academy, I teach stylists how to install extensions safely, customize installations for different hair types, and work with a variety of extension methods. My goal as an educator is to help raise the standard of extension work in the industry by focusing on technique, customization, and hair health.

While I do not offer traditional hair coloring services due to allergies, I frequently custom-color hair extensions to ensure a seamless blend with each client’s natural hair.

Whether I am working behind the chair or teaching other stylists, my focus remains the same: creating extensions that look natural, feel comfortable, and protect the long-term health of the natural hair
